How IDS delivered a cloud-native works management platform on AWS for eviFile
About the customer
eviFile is a technology company specialising in digital evidence management for works and projects. Focused on sectors including infrastructure, rail, construction, and utilities, eviFile’s platform acts as a secure, cloud-based system of records for field operations. It allows organisations to digitise site workflows, forms, and reporting to ensure projects remain compliant and on track. By providing a ‘single source of truth’ for all field data, eviFile guarantees that every record – from inspection photos to progress forms – has unquestionable authenticity (time-stamped, geo-tagged, and tamper-proof) and can be audited at any stage of a project.
The challenge
The organisation needed to develop a flexible, cloud-native works management platform that could collect, schedule, and manage field data across multiple industries. The solution had to work across mobile and desktop environments, both online and offline, and support secure, auditable, and tamper-proof data collection to ensure regulatory compliance and reduce project risk.
Without a reliable digital solution, customers faced significant costs related to dispute resolution, inefficient manual processes, and data inconsistency across large infrastructure programmes. The platform also needed to be robust enough to scale across multiple enterprise clients with varying workflows and system integrations.
The solution
Working in close collaboration, IDS Group and eviFile’s team designed and built a cloud-native solution on AWS that met all the outlined requirements. The result is a modern SaaS platform that leverages a microservices architecture and fully managed AWS services for maximum scalability and security.
Key AWS components used in the architecture include Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) for network isolation, Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) with AWS Fargate for running containerized application services, Amazon Elastic Container Registry (ECR) for container image storage, Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL) for a highly available relational database, Amazon DocumentDB (MongoDB-compatible) for flexible document storage, Amazon OpenSearch for powerful search and analytics capabilities, Amazon ElastiCache (Redis) for in-memory caching, Elastic Load Balancing (ALB, Application Load Balancer) to distribute traffic, Amazon CloudFront as a content delivery network, Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for file storage, AWS CodePipeline for CI/CD automation, and AWS Systems Manager for operational management.
