As an organisation, we firmly believe that nurturing young talent is key to driving innovation and growth within the tech industry.
While the sector offers dynamic opportunities and the potential for significant impact, research shows that, although around two-thirds of young adults aged 16–24 are considering tech careers, challenges such as a decline in tech job adverts and limited awareness of industry roles mean many miss out on early exposure.
By welcoming and mentoring the next generation, IDS provides young people with a first-hand glimpse of the fast-paced, evolving digital world, while also bringing fresh ideas and energy into our teams.
Recently, IDS Group had the pleasure of welcoming two students for a week of work experience each – Elliott Deacon and Amy Ogley. During their time with us, they explored our services, gained insight into our operations, and engaged with different teams across the business – from marketing and design to account management and software development.

Commenting on her week with us, Amy said:
“The team at IDS was incredibly welcoming and supportive from day one. Being able to see how everyone contributes to the business has given me a real understanding of what it takes to make a company successful. I’ve learned about so many different roles and met people who are passionate about what they do, which has inspired me and broadened my career perspective.”
Throughout the week, Amy also enjoyed participating in networking events, including FinTech North’s York FinTech Forum and Connect Yorkshire and Sales Geeks training session: Sales Acceleration in a Slowing Economy, alongside our client relations manager, Kat Plant. These events gave her a chance to see the collaborative side of our business in action, as well as meet with other industry professionals in an informal and energetic environment.
“Talking to the team and learning about their career paths has given me a lot of insight into the tech industry as a whole. It’s shown me the variety of roles available and how much teamwork goes into delivering results. I’ve gained skills in communication, observation, and understanding business operations that I know will help me in the future.”
Alongside networking, Amy also got involved in our Climb25 follow-up project, fostering connections with people we met at the event. Working with the sales and marketing team, she helped input and analyse data, assisted in preparing follow up activity and updating our CRM with valuable insight. This gave her a first-hand look at how we approach client challenges and deliver solutions, while also allowing her to contribute meaningfully to the team.
Nick Halliday, CEO of IDS Group, reflected on the value of these visits:
“Supporting young people at the start of their careers helps to open doors to opportunities they might not otherwise see. At IDS, we’re committed to showing the breadth of careers available in technology and helping young talent build the confidence and skills they need to move forward.”
As we continue to grow our team and services, we look forward to welcoming more aspiring professionals, helping them build knowledge, confidence, and a clearer vision of how technology can shape their future careers.
Growing skills within IDS
And, supporting young people at the start of their careers is just one part of how we invest in future talent. We’re also committed to helping our existing team continue to grow and develop their skills.
We’re also running an apprenticeship scheme in partnership with QA, one of the UK’s leading technology and business skills providers. QA’s apprenticeships offer structured, career-focused training that helps individuals gain new qualifications while applying their learning directly in the workplace.
Our own business analyst, Matthew Likely, is currently completing a Level 4 Business Analyst Apprenticeship with QA – building on his extensive client-facing experience with a deeper analytical toolkit.
By investing in both new and experienced talent, we ensure our clients benefit from a team that is continually learning, adapting, and equipped with the latest skills to deliver smarter solutions.
