We’re proud to be powered by a brilliant, diverse team of people who bring expertise, creativity and passion to everything they do. From engineers and analysts to operations and leadership, every colleague plays a part in shaping what we deliver.
Our team Q&A allows us to spotlight the people behind the projects – sharing their stories, insights, and maybe an app they can’t live without!
Next up, our financial controller, Alice Winckle…
- What first drew you to the software/tech industry?
As a financial controller, I’m passionate about helping businesses thrive. In today’s business world, tech is deeply embedded into every successful company, and it’s clear that the future of business is tech-driven. This constant innovation really appealed to me. I’m inspired by environments that challenge the status quo, embrace modern values, and are adaptable – and these qualities are often at the heart of successful tech companies.
2. What does a typical day at IDS Group look like for you?
Every morning has to start with Yorkshire Tea! I only joined the business in Spring 2025, so I still feel relatively young in my IDS journey. As a result, a significant part of my day is currently focused on learning, understanding, and deep diving into the financials and details of the business. While my vision for the role is future-focused, I’m intentionally spending time looking back for better reporting down the line.
- What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone wanting to break into the tech space?
In a tech company, staying on top of your finances isn’t just about being organised, it’s about enabling smart, strategic growth. Tech moves fast, and without financial clarity, it’s easy to burn through resources without delivering real value.
- What’s your favourite memory or proudest moment at IDS Group so far?
My favourite memory is my incredibly warm welcome from the team at Bowcliffe Hall! This supportive environment has continued into my second quarter with IDS, and I already feel like a valued member of the team.
- What do you think makes IDS Group different from other technical partners?
Its people. My colleagues aren’t just experts in their fields, they are also incredibly approachable, collaborative, and driven. There’s a genuine care for the work and the outcomes, which creates a culture where people push for the best result, no matter what.
- How would you describe IDS Group in three words?
Reliable, committed experts.
- What are you most excited about for your role at IDS Group?
I was drawn to IDS by the opportunity to join a talented team during an exciting period of growth. I’m excited to bring the entire finance function in-house, as it’s a key step in supporting the business with stronger insights and smarter decision-making. Helping to shape this next phase of IDS’s journey while growing my career alongside the business is something I’m truly looking forward to.
- What do you see as the biggest tech trend or opportunity coming in the next 12 months?
AI has the potential to transform everyday efficiency. In finance, for example, it’s already streamlining routine tasks such as bank reconciliation, while also tackling more complex work like analysing trends and generating automated financial forecasts.
- What piece of software or tech tool could you not live without – work or personal?
Xero on a professional level, Spotify on a personal one!
- Finally, when you’re not at work, how do you like to spend your time?
I’m very active and love playing tennis, aiming to get out on the court year-round – though I especially enjoy playing outdoors when the weather permits. I hold a PADI scuba diving license and try to fit in a dive whenever I travel. Plus, any watersporting activity is a winner for me. This summer, I had my first surf lesson!
