The project at-a-glance

  • 2D security identifier code that links physical world to any form of information
  •  IDS appointed as technical partner
  • Quadrillions of unique combinations
  • Tech stack: .NET Core, Vue, MySQL, SQS, Python, Docker
  • Highly secure SaaS web platform with multi-tier architecture

The requirement

VCode is a 2D visual, scannable product – similar to QR codes – but with patented features that create a highly secure closed-loop system and quadrillions of unique combinations.

These unique platform components include the ability to return a different result to every person scanning the code based on location geofencing, defined time bands, user ID and more.

VST Enterprises was purposefully created to supply this multi-award-winning product to market and manage real-time demand.

IDS

"I know VSTE prides itself on its ‘infinite possibilities’ – and it is exactly that sort of optimism this country needs to power its economy. Manchester’s exciting tech industry is already sparking new ideas and new businesses, and VSTE will be able to spread the word in India”

Theresa May
Former UK Prime Minister

Our solution

IDS was appointed as the technical partner, enlisted to build the product up following failures and non-delivery issues caused by a previous supplier.

Due to the unbelievably large number of potential codes and extensive functionality built into the VCode system, VSTE’s ability to manage these codes and cope with real-time traffic demand had become severely restricted by the performance, scalability and security of the product.

These challenges applied to both end-users who would interact with the platform via a web portal or mobile app, as well as high-throughput open APIs that allowed for partner and third party system integrations.

The results

IDS has delivered a highly secure SaaS web platform including dedicated digital portals for end users, wholesale users, partners and internal administrators – each with their own set of permissions and capabilities, managed via a flexible Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) system.

The multi-tier architecture incorporates various robust measures to protect against threats such as data leakage, with cryptographically strong encryption of information at rest, in storage and in transit.

Detailed analytics capabilities have opened up a wealth of auditing potential, and a dedicated reporting platform – which leverages a number of cloud-native services and NoSQL technologies – is rich with low latency, high throughput functionality.

Committed to strengthening the disaster recovery strategy, the system now operates from multiple data centres concurrently, which hasn’t just improved uptime – possible failover delays have also been removed. This business continuity plan has been further strengthened by remote encrypted cold backups and routine DR simulations. VCode is now a resilient scannable technology that can be used in almost limitless identification scenarios, ranging from tracking and traceability, banking and cryptocurrency, anti-counterfeiting systems, national ID infrastructures, branded product analytics, advertising and more.

Open APIs which facilitate the ease of integration with third parties, and a number of autoscaling features now better support the future growth of the product. A powerful billing engine with secure payment gateway provides the ability to choose a billing plan based on number of scans, number of users, period of VCode activation and other metrics.
